Dinner prep
Hello achievers!
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
I went out to Mt.Hood on Saturday. It was raining, and a bit slushy, but it was fun! What did you do over the weekend?
I will share in another blog with you what I do on the weekends π, and my Sunday routine!!!
What a fine start to the week, it has been! Has it not? How has Monday morniong treated you?
We had cereal and milk for breakfast, making it an easy peasy start to the day. Check out my reel here!
So, to continue on my previous blog, work goes on as the afternoon goes by, and my second break comes upon me. Breaks are automatically triggered on my work computer based on he number of hours the mouse and screen remain active. I have to take this break or it gets flagged an non-compliance, which, I am sure no one in the service industry ever wants - an awkward conversation with your manager on being non-compliant with company policy π.
This is what I a mean by screen freezing over when it is break time:
So, in my second short break (first short break in the morning, then lunch, and now this), I start with prepping for dinner. But before I take to the cutting board, I start boiling the water, and brew some tea. Afternoon chai π΅ came into my life as a welcoming change after I had kids. Before that, I was not a fan of afternoon tea, like not at all. I've always had afternoon coffee - this habit got into me while I was pursuing my Bacherlors degree in India, and it has stayed with me through my higher education and corporate jobs. The afternoon coffee turned into tea, after I became a mom. All of a sudden, the warmth and aroma of black tea made me feel happy over the smell of coffee!
To the cutting board, I say! Arrghh. Coming out of pirate mode and back to being me, LOL. I get my set of chopping knives. I use Victorinox, and oh man, it makes chopping vegetables and meats beautiful! It gives you sleek, smooth cuts, and is so easy on the wrists. I love these knives!
During my second break, I am sipping on hot tea, and chopping vegetables, or marinating meats, depending on whatever is on the menu. Yes, you read that right. I prepare a menu for what I will be making of breakfast and dinner over the week, and I just have to follow the menu as the week goes by π. This makes cooking so much easier and more importantly faster and focused during the week!
Baby Lizzie is sitting in her high chair nibbling on baby carrots or apples, as supermama is prepping for dinner. I feel this is a great way to introduce cooking to the baby, and also give them a sense of the different foods that I am handling. It also exposes them to the concept of steam, heat, changing aromas, and allows them to observe different motor functions that one uses while cooking. I also let Lizzie hold the cutting knife and while holding her hadn I let her chop a tomato just for fun! π
Break time is over, as can be told my the timer going off, and Lizzie and I head back up to my office to sign-on into work. I complete my to-do-list of tasks at work, send out update emails to my team/peers as per the need, and I sign-off work. With that last deep breath and a big smile on my face, I head on down back to the kitchen to cook dinner with the materials already prepped and ready to go from before. As you can tell, I transform into a full-time chef, as soon as I am done being a full-time scientist!
As I sart cooking, my husband heads to the daycare to pick up Ali. Once they get home, dinner is ready to be served. π΄πΌ
One thing is a must in my home, no matter what, everyone sits together at the dinner table. You can fight, you can shout, you can throw food, and, of course, you can smile and be thankful for the food on the table, the roof over your head, and the love of the family members sitting around you! π
With this I bid you all a goodbye for now, and will share my night time routine in my next blog. Until then, please do share your thought with me about food prep in your lives. How do you mange that aspect, and do you use meal prep methods to aid you in the process?
