Do Your Chores

Good Morning Y'all!

Wow! We made it to Friday morning!

Happy Women's Day to all the wonderful women out there - you have the strength, you have the power and you know you can do what you set your mind to!

Thank you mom, for showing me that the strength of a woman lies in so many small nuances, and for showing me that the baggage that women had to carry in previous generations no longer holds true. It is because of this attitude that I can confidently raise my two girls in very non-traditional ways and I sincerely hope I never burden them with societal tasks that have been categorized as "women's tasks" as they turn into women in an ever-changing society!

I left off yesterday's blog promising to share with you what I do during my lunch break. So, here I am.

Let's be honest - Corporate America does not have lunch breaks. You can block off a time on your calendar and do whatever you want during that time. HR would want you to take lunch breaks, but I mean, lets get real.

So, during 11 a.m. to noon ⏳, which is what I have blocked off on my calendar, is the time I spend in doing some household chores and having lunch. I have lunch in 10 minutes. I heat up the leftovers from the previous nights dinner, and lunch is served! πŸ˜‹

Household chores that I get to, in the 50 minutes that I have on hand, include simple ones such as:

  1. Wash all toilets, and sinks. I have 3 full baths and a sink in the kitchen.
  2. Wipe all surfaces in the bathrooms.
  3. Wipe all surfaces in the bedrooms.
  4. Vacuum either top floor or main floor.
  5. Wipe all blinds.
  6. Wipe all doors.
  7. Wipe all surfaces in the kitchen and/or living room.
  8. Wipe all furniture.

Before you think, "How! She is insane!", well, I would be if I got to that entire list in one 50-minute session. Ha Haha Hahaha πŸ˜…

I do these turn-by-turn. I maintain a log of the chores with dates, of course, and so, I just maintain that cycle and cleaning schedule. There are many a times when I cannot follow it to the book, but, I do have a general outline of what needs to be done, when, and how often.

So, there you go. I am a full-time home-maker/cleaning lady, for 50 minutes everyday.

Are you wondering who's taking care of Lizzie while I am doing this? Any wild guesses? Yes, you are correct! It's her dad. My cleaning time is daddy and Lizzie's one-on-one time! πŸ‘¨πŸ‘ΆπŸ’“

If anyone if thinking, "Well, that's unfair. Why wouldn't he do the cleaning and she spend time with the baby?" To be very honest, with myself and with you, I enjoy those 50 minutes. I am listening to my favorite podcast or music or audiobook, while doing these chores. Sometimes, it gives me a chance to listen to something new - like different lifestyles people adopt, or new avenues of investment, or topics that the next generation cares about. In all fairness, my husband and I both get what we want, and that makes us happy, satisfied, and open to "us" time, which I will share with you in a future blog.

As the 50-minute timer is about to hit completion, Lizzie goes down for a nap, and I head back to my office and back to being a full-time scientist, again.

As work continues on, Lizzie wakes up from her nap in an hour or so, and she is happily playing in my office with her toys. The afternoon goes by πŸ•“, and soon it will be time for my next short break, and then end of the work day will soon approach.

Until then, I wish you all a wonderful Friday, and hope you have a great weekend with your family and friends! 🎊
